John Itzat
Itzat is a word in the Yucatec Maya langauge that which translates to sage/wiseman, or spiritual craftsman. John Itzat is a mixed media artist based in Los Angeles that aims to focus his career in wearable sculpture inspired by the various cultures of the Americas.
As a child, film and television sparked an interest in mythological creatures and folkloric iconography across the globe, particularly those of Latin America. As a result, John has spent much time studying and designing creatures and cryptids. His endeavors into the world of 3D art have sparked a passion for building props such as toy figurines, merchandise, and costume accessories.
Throughout his undergraduate career, in addition to his Illustration curriculum, he pursued a focus in 3D fabrication to further develop the visual stories he wished to represent with his art. He has gained experience in a variety of art mediums including digital concept art, wood work, jewelry metals, and 3D printing. Recently, he has been developing a line of wearable merchandise inspired by Mesoamerican mythological creatures.
